City Hall submits findings from probe of money found in vehicle

The Local Government Commission (LGC) has been furnished with a report from the Mayor and City Council on the investigation into the discovery of a bag of money that was found in the vehicle assigned to the city’s Chief Constable, according to acting Town Clerk Sherry Jerrick.

Jerrick informed the City Council yesterday at a statutory meeting that a report was delivered to her office on Friday and she has since forwarded the report to the LGC.

The issue was brought to the attention of the City Council at a statutory meeting after Mayor Ubraj Narine asked that an investigation be conducted into the allegation, which he stated that he overheard.

The Chief Constable, Andrew Foo, had confirmed that the bag was found in the vehicle by his driver, who then brought it to his attention. When contacted yesterday, Foo stated that verifications were done by the audit department of the council as it relates to the contents of the bag. He added that not much else could be revealed as the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.

Narine had announced at a statutory meeting that he was made aware of a bag of money being found in the Chief Constable’s vehicle. Foo, who had not been present at that meeting, later clarified that the vehicle was not his personal vehicle but one assigned to him by the council.

It was later revealed that the vehicle was used to escort the Treasurer and Clerk of Markets and the bag, which was marked and numbered, was identified as one belonging to the Clerk of Market’s Department.
