Texas-based oil giant ExxonMobil has again committed to sponsoring the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2019 HERO Caribbean Premier League.

The partnership was officially revealed when at the media launch on the ground floor of the Marriott Hotel, Kingston yesterday.

This is a renewed initiative while the company has also been part of the set up in 2017.

The company’s country manager, Rod Henson, who sees sports as a unifying force, acknowledged that the CPL couldn’t have come at a better time, pointing to the tension in the society as a result of the upcoming elections and first oil.

“It’s been a long wait but it’s finally CPL again and it couldn’t have come at a better time, sports has a way of bringing people together for the love of the game, sports has a way of allowing people to forget about their troubles and worries and honestly it is nice to talk about something other than elections and first oil,” Henson stated.

The Country Manager confirmed Guyana’s support for cricket and the Amazon Warriors.

“Guyana loves cricket, we all know that and it is something we could all get behind and root for the Amazon Warriors.”

He reflected on his experience last season, most memorably recalling his presentation of the Man-of-the-Match award to Sherfane Rutherford, something he looks forward to doing again.

Henson also recalled the excitement and atmosphere when the Warriors defeated the Trinbago Knight Riders to reach the final with a six off of the penultimate ball of the match.

“Last year in the playoffs against Trinidad it came down to the wire we needed three runs from two balls and we got a six to put us into the final it was crazy, everyone went nuts it was a fun night and it was great to be part of that,” he reminisced.

Team Operations Manager, Omar Khan extended gratitude to the company for its support of the Warriors while captain, Shoaib Malik confirmed Henson as an official Warrior as he presented him with his kit and requested that he turn up for practice.
