Man jailed for stabbing, assaulting daughters

A man has been imprisoned after he admitted to stabbing one of his daughters and assaulting another.

Peter Thompson was sentenced to a total of 15 months in prison by Magistrate Dylon Bess on Monday.

Thompson was charged with unlawfully wounding one of his daughters on April 30th, 2018 at their home and also with unlawfully assaulting another daughter, causing her actual bodily harm.

Police prosecutor Dellon Sullivan informed the court that on the day in question, Thompson and his daughter were having an argument when he used a knife to stab her in the abdomen.

According to the daughter, Sullivan said, she heard her sister screaming and when she tried to intervene, Thompson picked up a bucket and hit her in the head.

Magistrate Bess sentenced Thompson to 12 months in prison for wounding his daughter and three months in prison for assaulting the other daughter. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning that Thompson will only serve 12 months.
