Moruca man remanded on wounding charge

A man was on Wednesday remanded to prison after he was charged with wounding another person, who now remains hospitalised in a critical condition.

Magistrate Leron Daly  read the wounding charge to Calvin Murray.

The charge alleges that the accused, on September 2, at Moruca, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Shane Peters, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm.

Murray denied the allegation levelled against him.

Police prosecutor Sanj Singh objected to the accused being granted bail, citing the fact that the complainant remains hospitalised in a serious condition.

Murray was then remanded to prison and the matter referred to the courtroom of the Chief Magistrate for September 9.
