“Staying consistent in the tournament is key,” is the advice from skipper Shoaib  Malik to his team following the triumphs of the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the conclusion of their first three home matches in this year’s installment of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Warriors, who will play on the road in their next five encounters, comfortably defeated the St Lucia Zouks, the St Kitts Patriots and the Barbados Tridents to get their campaign rolling in the right direction.

However, the plot could become fuzzy should Warriors lose momentum as they play away from their Providence stronghold.

Malik has warned against any complacency.

“When you win games, of course, confidence is there in the dressing room, especially the players who are in good form, just stay consistent in the tournament. It’s just the beginning,” Malik said during a post-match briefing on Sunday evening.

As he emphasized the need for the form players to exercise their touch during clutch moments, Malik also underscored the importance of stitching the right combinations together to perform in foreign conditions.

“We will be on the road for the next five games and we are looking forward to it. We will try to put good combinations together considering the grounds and oppositions,” the captain said while noting that Anthony Bramble and Clinton Pestano who did not feature during the matches at Providence are ‘definitely’ in reckoning.

Touching on the impact that the sold-out crowds made during the home matches, the Pakistani said he was marvelled by the support given to the team. He compared the atmosphere to the experiences he encountered in Pakistan.

“For me, it doesn’t feel like I’m outside of Pakistan. It was fully packed and the people have so much passion for cricket. Even when we come out of the hotels, we get a lot of support from all these people.

“It’s great to see and we would like to thank then that they were here cheering, it’s what we expect for the last two games.”

Warriors’ next assignment will be against Patriots at Warner Park on September 14, 2019.
