Timehri Panthers were crowned the inaugural champion of the Vurlon Mills Football Academy/MVP Sports U-11 Tournament last Saturday at the St Stanislaus College ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The Timehri Panthers defeated Vurlon Mills Football Academy (VMFA) 4-0 in the final. Omar Sam, the event’s eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) recorded a hat-trick.

Adding a goal in the win was Keran Williams. The Timehri Panthers pocketed medals and the championship trophy for their efforts. For the runner-up, the corresponding accolade was received.

Meanwhile, Tavelle Youth Foundation (TYF) downed Buxton Stars 9-2 in the third place match.

Gary Primo amassed a helmet trick while Elijah Thomas tallied a double. Adding one goal each were Emmanuel Corbin, Raven Nurse and Shaqualle Palryueple.

For the loser, Mikhail Thomas and Jamarie Phyll netted. Due to the outcome, TYF walked away with the third place trophy while Buxton Stars copped the fourth place accolade.

In the individual section of the presentation, Gary Primo received the Highest Goal-scorer accolade while Matthew Henry pocketed the Best Goalkeeper title.

Vurlon Mills, the coordinator of the event, in a brief comment, said, “There is a lack of football for this age group in the country so we decided to run this programme. The main initiative is for development as many kids are not getting the opportunity to display their talents. As well, we are trying to scout players at this age group to maintain for the long term with regards to national progression and development.”

In the earlier group round, Timehri Panthers crushed Buxton Stars 14-0. Omar Sam and Keran Williams bagged four goals each, while Jaden Tasher recorded a hat-trick. Adding a brace was Josiah Ross while Josiah Williams netted once.

Timehri Panthers also dismissed VMFA 4-0. Omar Sam led the rout with a hat-trick, while Nathaniel John netted once. The unit also defeated the TYF 3-1. Omar Sam, Keran Williams and Anderson Webber scored one goal each. For the loser, Gary Primo netted.

Meanwhile, VMFA downed Buxton Stars 2-0, while TYF mauled Buxton Stars 8-0. Also, VMFA defeated TYF 2-0.
