Over a dozen suspected gang members arrested in Linden operation

The police in ‘E’ Division (Linden- Kwakwani) on Thursday arrested 14 men, who are believed to be part of a gang, during a six-hour-long operation at Mackenzie and Wismar, Linden.

Stabroek News understands that the operation was spearheaded by ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department’s Major Crimes Unit.

The men were arrested in various parts of Linden and were being questioned up to yesterday in relation to several offences, including possession of narcotics and arson.

In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said those in custody are: A 20-year-old welder, of South Amelia’s Ward, for arson and possession of military stores; a 28-year-old driver, of South Amelia’s Ward, for arson and possession of narcotics; a 23-year-old miner, of South Amelia’s Ward, for arson, possession of military stores and possession of six suspected incendiary devices, to wit “flambos”; a 36-year-old carpenter, of Buxton, East Coast Demerara, for arson; a 26-year-old, of South Amelia’s Ward, for arson; a 22-year-old labourer, of South Amelia’s Ward, for arson; a 19-year-old farmer, of South Amelia’s Ward, for arson; a 25-year-old mechanic, of Central Amelia’s Ward for arson; a 23-year-old construction worker of Tucburg Park, New Amsterdam, Berbice, for arson; a 20-year-old mason, of South Amelia’s Ward, for arson; a 30-year-old resident of South Amelia’s Ward, for arson; a 20-year-old, of South Amelia’s Ward, for arson; a 20-year-old porter of Canvas City, Wismar, Linden, for possession of narcotics and unlawful possession of a motorcycle; and a 36-year-old self-employed resident of Canvas City, Wismar, Linden, for unlawful possession of a motorcycle and fraudulent imitation of an identification mark.

A police source told Stabroek News that as probe continues, the hunt is ongoing for ex-policeman Teon Allen, called “Spoil Child,” who is suspected to be to the leader of the gang.

Just over a week ago, the police had issued a wanted bulletin for Allen, who is wanted in relation to the attempt murder of two women in Linden.

In August, 2017, Allen was charged with harbouring wanted men Mark Royden Williams and Uree Varswyck, who had escaped from the Camp Street Prison on July 9th, 2017.

In January of the same year, Allen was among three men who were charged with the illegal possession of an AK-47 and matching ammunition.

They were taken into custody after the items were found by the police during a raid at a John Street, Campbellville house.

Allen was also charged in relation to several other offences, including armed robbery.
