First Lady Sandra Granger on Friday commended the National Library for making positive steps towards embracing technology.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of the Presidency, Mrs Granger was at the time speaking at a Staff Appreciation Ceremony, which was held in commemoration of the library’s 110th anniversary.

In praising the library’s efforts, she cited its “Reading and Robotics” programme, which was the result of a collaboration with non-governmental organisation STEM Guyana. “I look forward to the Library services being developed to be a vibrant partner in ICT…,” she said.  “The library remains relevant and remains an organisation in transformation,” she added, while noting its adaptation to the new focus on education.

The library also presented the First Lady with a token of appreciation for her support of the “Library Link” programme, which is a literary initiative targeting senior citizens.

Chief Librarian Emily King thanked the staff for their commitment to the job.
