Gayle’s party should not be held at Arthur Chung Conference Centre

Dear Editor,

Chris Gayle is having a birthday and Guyanese will be celebrating. It is unclear if he will be present for the celebration planned for Saturday, October 5, 2019. What has me baffled is the choice of the venue for this event – The Arthur Chung Conference Centre. What happened to the Bourda Cricket Ground, the Everest Cricket Ground, the Providence Stadium, the National Park or D’Urban Park? I am sure we can all agree that these locations are more appropriate for a birthday celebration for a cricketer.

Have the organizers even assessed the impact such a gathering will have on the neighbouring communities of Liliendaal and Turkeyen? What about the students at CPCE and the Amerindian Hostels? Perhaps the celebration will be held indoors in a soundproof room thereby ensuring that there is no noise disturbance to the surrounding residents. One can only wonder.

Yours faithfully,
