Robert Singh defeated Gamal Khan 6-2 to win the men’s category of the inaugural Archery Guyana’s Seven Seas Indoor championships held recently at the National Gymnasium.

In the first semifinal Singh and Anand Mangra ended with five points each which led to a one arrow shoot-off which Singh won.

Khan won the second semi-final despite a spirited challenge from Sean Duncan who subsequently defeated Mangra 6-0 in the third place playoff.

Samira Duncan won the women’s division after defeating top seed Narda Mohammed.

The junior women’s final was won by Talitha Kissoon who defeated Jessica Callender while Isaac Baksh ended four points ahead of his twin Ephraim in the junior men’s division.

The competition, which began with the ranking rounds to determine the pairing of the archers for the competitive elimination shootout, saw  Jeewanram Persaud outshoot the more senior archers, ending in the top spot with 215 points out of a possible 360 for the men. 

Narda Mohamed took the top position among the women with a quality shoot of 194 points. 

In the junior women’s category, the top position went to Callender with  Kissoon, second.

The competitive championship shoot-out started immediately the lunch break and produced some major upsets with Jeewanram Persaud being defeated by  Singh in the first quarterfinal. In the second quarter-final, Fabian Ramdatt suffered at the hands of Mangra and in the third quarter-final, Sean Duncan played brilliantly to defeat Elijah Johnson while in the fourth quarter final, Khan easily defeated Ryan McKinnon. Sponsored by Seven Seas, the opening remarks were made by Archery Guyana President Gamal Khan and Seven Seas Brand Manager Nirvana Thakur who later presented the prizes while the podium finishers all received medals.

The archers were kept hydrated by Archery Guyana’s sponsor Oasis Water who along with the National Sports Commission were the major sponsors.
