(Trinidad Express) A year after her reported suicide in August 2018, Nandita Harbukhan’s common-law husband has been charged with her murder.

Rishi Ramgoolam, a 39-year-old engineer of Haleland Park, Maraval, was charged by officers of the Cold Case Unit following extensive investigations into the death of 38-year-old Harbukhan on August 23 at her Haleland Park home.

Harbukhan was found dead in bed. Police were told she had a strap around the neck and an autopsy found she had died from asphyxia. There were unexplained marks of violence on her body.

Investigations conducted by the Cold Case Unit, under the supervision of ACPs Nurse, and James, along with Sgt. Theophilus and Cpl. Narine of the Maraval Police Station, led to Ramgoolam’s arrest last Friday at the Piarco International Airport.

Ramgoolam was subsequently charged with murder by Sgt. Theophilus, following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecution Roger Gaspard, SC.
