Taxi driver charged with raping girl, 12

A taxi driver was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Neville Thomas, 36, was read the charge in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.

It is alleged that Thomas committed the act between April and May.

According to police, Thomas, who is known to the family of the child, allegedly picked-up the young girl from school and took her to a hotel, where the act was allegedly committed.

After being read the charge during the in-camera hearing, he was later remanded to prison until October 3rd.
