Biker dies in Somerset and Berks crash

A 55-year-old motorcyclist is now dead after he allegedly lost control and collided with a minibus along the Somerset and Berks, Essequibo Coast Public Road early yesterday morning.

Dead is Brignand Rup, a resident of David James Scheme, Charity, Essequibo Coast.

Stabroek News understands that the accident occurred around 5.45am while Rup was returning home after visiting his newborn grandchild for the first time at the hospital.

The driver of the minibus, who has been identified as a 55-year-old resident of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast was taken into custody and is assisting with investigations.

Initial investigations, according to the police, revealed that minibus, BPP 2790 was proceeding east along the southern carriageway of the public road when Rup who was travelling in the opposite direction allegedly lost control and collided with the minibus.

Rup was taken to the Charity Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
