Lie Yang, the Chinese national who was wounded during a robbery at her America Street, George-town business on Friday, is said to be recovering well in hospital. Lie remained a patient yesterday at the George-town Public Hospital, where she was admitted after being cut on her neck by one of her attackers. She received eight stitches as a result.

Her friends told this newspaper that she seemed to be progressing well in her recovery but they were unsure when she would be released from the hospital.

When this newspaper visited Lie’s business, the Shine-Bin Fashion and Clothing Store yesterday, it was closed.

Those who sell in the vicinity were unable to say what exactly took place on Friday afternoon when the attack occurred.

This newspaper was told that Lie was with one of her employees at the cash register of her store when five men entered and one of them pointed a knife at her as they demanded cash. Lie was cut across her neck in the attack and the men also made off with a quantity of cash.

Sales girls from a nearby store, who are also Lie’s friends, informed that they were busy with customers when someone [another sales girl] alerted everyone within hearing distance that Lie was being robbed and that the robbers had a knife. “After we hear she [the sales girl who alerted everyone] we lock the door and stay in here [the store],” one of them explained.

Lie was subsequently transported to the George-town Public Hospital after the men made their escape.
