One of the suspects charged with the killing of Mahaicony businesswoman Bibi Shairoon Nesha Ali in 2016 yesterday admitted to committing the act.

Davanand Rampersaud, 27, yesterday confessed in the High Court to the killing of Ali, who was 56 years old. Rampersaud had been charged with murder and made his first court appearance in October 2016. He, however, pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.

Rampersaud was charged along with a 16-year-old boy, who was 14 years at the time of the murder. The charged alleged that between October 15th and October 17th, 2016 at Lot 4 Novar, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, they unlawfully killed Ali.

When Rampersaud appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon yesterday, a probation report was requested by his attorney. The man is set to make his next appearance on October 15th for the presentation of the probation report and for sentencing.

Ali’s body was discovered on October 17th on the floor of her bedroom. The discovery was made after neighbours had reported that she had not been seen since two days prior.

Subsequent to the discovery, the police arrested the then 14-year-old after information revealed that he and the businesswoman had an argument days prior to the discovery of her body. Rampersaud was later arrested as he had been seen in the company of the juvenile.

Ali’s relatives at the time had indicated that they believed that she was killed between the night of October 15th and the morning of October 16th as her body was already in an advanced state of decomposition when it was discovered on October 17th.
