Holiday today for all public school teachers

Public schools in Guyana will be closed today as teachers enjoy a manager’s holiday as part of the observance of Teachers Day 2019.

A memorandum from Chief Education Officer Marcel Hutson to all education districts states that International Teachers Day should be celebrated as a day of reflection and appreciation for teacher’s contributions in the development of education in Guyana while empowering teachers to demonstrate alacrity towards the transformation of the education system. “The Chief Education Officer recognizes the outstanding contributions of teachers towards the transformation of the education and as such would like to thank teachers for their invaluable service rendered,” the memorandum explains.

Held yearly on October 5, the International teachers’ day revolves around “acknowledging, evaluating and enhancing the instructors of the world” and gives a chance to consider the issues identified with educators and the teaching process in general. This year the day will be celebrated under the theme, “I Teach for a Better World”.
