A delegation of Indian businessmen representing the firm of Terna Impex LLP, on Wednesday met with the Minister of Natural Resources Raphael Trotman to discuss business opportunities in the mining, energy and agricultural sectors.

According to a Ministry of Natural Resources (MoNR) release, the meeting was held at the Ministry’s offices and included senior staff as well as representatives of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC). The delegation’s visit was facilitated by the High Commissioner of Guyana in India, Dr David Pollard and was led by the Company director, Balasaheb Kadam.

Terna Impex LLP is a manufacturer of machinery and equipment and registered in Mumbai, India

The discussions centred on the company’s proposal to invest in the mining sector through a cooperative approach. This specifically relates to mining with small scale Guyanese miners and land owners. The overall intention as indicated by Kadam is to have a mutually beneficial arrangement whereby equipment manufactured in India would be utilised by small and artisanal scale miners in Guyana. Trotman expressed interest in the approach and identified the necessary channels that must be taken in order to move the idea forward. He maintained that an investment in the people of Guyana is always welcomed and that the Government would support a pilot project on mercury-free mining. He also agreed to arrange meetings with the various mining bodies to further discussions with the company.

Meanwhile, the Minister has made the staff of GGMC available to assist in offering advice and guidance, the release added.
