The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was outclassed by stunning effort from the Diplomats who defeated them by 29 runs in the latest round of the 2019 New Building Society (NBS), Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Second Division 40- over tournament while the Transport Sports Club (TSC) and the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) recorded their first win. 

Diplomats, who were inserted by the GDF, posted 160 for seven from their allotted 23 overs – the match was affected by rain. Skipper Nigel Sampson (45) missed out on a half-century while marshalling the batting as Sean Huge (27) and Adrian Foster (27) chipped in.

MSC’s Nichosie Barker was once again in the wickets for his side.  

Seamer Selwin Collier (3-37) and Colvis Sam (2-37) were the pick of the bowlers for GDF who in response were dismissed for 131 inside 22 overs. Rickford Mohamed (3-26), Huge (3-14) and Martin King (2-21) delivered the win for their side. 

Only Randy Wade (35) and Randy Lindore (24) mustered any resistance.

Meanwhile, over at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), TSC trounced Ace Warriors by nine wickets. That contest saw Ace Warriors being bundled out for 60 inside 18 overs, folding to the experience of Kevin Ross (3-21) while Mark Baptiste (3-14) and Joel Spooner (2-1) supported. 

The TSC completed the win by coasting to 61-1 as Devon Nandan top scored with 22. 

The MSC, on the other hand, defeated Third Class by three wickets on the back of another match-winning effort from the dependable Jeremiah Scott. That script saw Third Class batting first and being dismissed for 107 in 24 overs. 

Only Andre O’Neal (31) registered a substantive score while Marcus Watkins (3-9) and Nichosie Barker (3-21) shared six wickets between them for MSC who reached 109-7 on the back of Scott’s innings of 61 to complete the win. 

Sophia was also in the winner’s row after defeating Bel Air Rubis by six overs at the Queen’s College ground. Bel Air Rubis batted first and posted 173 in 20 overs. Sophia in response, rocketed to 176-4 in the 18th over to register their triumph.
