Forty-four-year-old Athlone Pitt yesterday admitted to chopping his wife to death in an attack at Bygeval Secondary School in 2016.

The man was charged with murdering Candacy Pitt, on June 1st, 2016, at the Bygeval Secondary School, at Mahaica, East Coast Demerara. He, however, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of man-slaughter when he appeared before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow.

According to previous reports, Candacy and Athlone were married for 13 years and the man had made threats to end her life that she had never reported.

On the day in question, the man went to the school and dealt his wife several chops about her body after he was denied entry into the compound. It was reported that following the attack he had surrendered to police and confessed to the killing.

The fatal attack occurred after the woman had ignored a request by her husband and got a job as a security officer and the man had showed up to her job on multiple occasions. During the chopping, the woman’s cousin also sustained injuries.

Justice Barlow will receive a probation report on Athlone Pitt on October 23rd, when sentencing could also take place.
