A former MMC Security Force guard yesterday admitted to killing a colleague during an argument in 2016.

The charge against Kevin Stephens stated that on September 17th, 2016, at Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara, he murdered Herbert Verwayne. Stephens, however pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter yesterday.

According to previous reports, a shooting occurred around 8am on the day in question when the accused, who was armed with a shotgun, had accused Verwayne and other workers of making “ill remarks” about his relatives and subsequently fired shots at them. Verwayne was fatally shot and another co-worker was wounded as a result.

Stephens is due to make his next court appearance on October 23rd before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow, as a probation report is expected to be presented and sentencing is likely to take place.
