When Savitri Basdeo was contacted and told she had won the grand prize in the Sunshine Snacks’ Caribbean Premier League (CPL) promotion, an all-expense paid trip for two to Trinidad for today’s finals, she thought she was being pranked.
For Basdeo, who has never travelled to Trinidad, the prize is a dream come true.
Sunshine Snacks, the official snack of the CPL, said in a press release that it launched its CPL promotion on August 26th, 2019 and customers who purchased Sunshine Snacks Peanuts had a chance to win cricket bats, hampers, tickets to the matches at the Providence Stadium and grand prize.
“I saw the promotion on social media and decided to look for Sunshine Snacks Peanuts with the CPL logo when I was shopping in the supermarket one afternoon. When I got home, after unpacking my groceries I sat on my bed with my phone looking for the code to enter on the site. I thought that was that,” Basdeo said.
According to the release, Basdeo reported that she initially missed the call from Trinidad. When she was eventually contacted by the Sunshine Snacks representative in Trinidad and informed that she had won the grand prize for the promotion, she said she thought it was a prank as she was not expecting to win. Basdeo added that she was “extra excited and very appreciative” because it had always been her dream to go and experience the finals in Trinidad.
Meanwhile, Jeranzee Marques, Country Manager of Sunshine Snacks brand in Guyana, who handed over the prize to Basdeo at a ceremony, thanked all the participants for taking part in the promotion and said he was elated that Sunshine Snacks was able to make a dream come true for someone.
