Nine players lead after GAICO first round

Former national champion Taffin Khan is among nine players who share the lead after Thursday’s first round of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) second Gaico tournament at the National Resource Centre, Woolford Avenue.

Khan defeated former national junior champion Saeed Ali in their encounter.

The other players are Ronuel Greenidge who defeated GCF president Frankie Farley, Justino Da Silva who won from Steve Leung, Roberto Neto who stopped Jaden Taylor, Davion Mars who defeated Chino Chung,   Errol Tiwari who got the better of Kenrick Braithwaite, Rai Sharma who defeated Uddhav Bhagwandeen, Adrian Roopnarine who defeated Glenford Corlette and Dane Grimmond who got the better of Jacob Nauth.

Four players follow on half a point in Shiv Nandalall who drew with Joshua Gopaul and Loris Nathoo who drew with Ethan Lee.

The competition continues this morning from 9.30am at the same venue with the following matchups.

The players named first will have the white pieces and the advantage of the first move.

The pairings are as follows:-Khan against Roopnaraine, Greenidge against Neto, Grimmond against Mars, Tiwari against Leung, Nathoo against Sharma, Gopaul against Lee, Corlette against Nandalall, Da Silva against Braithwaite, Ali  against Nauth,  Chung against Farley and Taylor against Bhagwandeen.

The third round will also take place tomorrow from 2.30pm.
