Kevin Allicock told a court that he used to be a boxing ambassador for the country in his plea for bail.

When Allicock of Lot 32 James Street, Albouystown appeared in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty yesterday, he was informed by the police prosecutor, Seon Blackman, that while the analyst’s statement for the matter was in, the prosecutor was still asking for more time to gather information for the matter to go to trial.

Allicock immediately asked the Magistrate to release him on bail given that he had been remanded to prison since August of this year. Prosecutor Blackman objected to his release but Allicock assured the court that he was not a flight risk and would attend court on every date given. He further explained “I used to be an ambassador for Guyana, through boxing” he said. With this information, Magistrate McGusty released him on $175,000 bail.

Allicock had been charged in August with discharging a loaded firearm at City Constable Brent Walcott on August 15th at Orange Walk, Bourda. At the time he had just been released on bail for another charge days before the alleged shooting took place. The charge had been read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and had stated that he discharged a loaded firearm at Walcott with intent to wound, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm.

However, Allicock who told the court in August that he is a fisherman, had said to the court that he was not in possession of the gun when he was arrested. He also informed that he was not aware of the firearm charge until after he was in custody.

Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield had told the court that on the day in question, Walcott noticed Allicock attempting to scale the fence at Bourda Market. Walcott raised an alarm, which made Allicock jump from the fence. However, Allicock then allegedly pulled out a gun and discharged three rounds aimed in the direction of the City constable.

Walcott was armed with his service weapon at the time and returned fire. Allicock reportedly escaped but the police were informed of his whereabouts and he was found shortly after, hiding under a bridge in the vicinity of Hadfield Street.

At that time there was another pending charge against Allicock. The charge alleged that on April 17th, Allicock unlawfully and maliciously wounded Joshua Baker in the vicinity of Georgetown. Allicock was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to Court 5.

His next court appearance will be on November 6th.
