Corentyne man killed in suspected hit-and-run, driver arrested

A man was on Saturday found dead along the Number 76 Village, Corentyne Public Road in what appears to be a hit-and-run, since broken glass from a vehicle’s headlight was found on the roadway. 

Dead is Premchand Harripaul, 27, of Lot 62 Section ‘A’, Number 69 Village, Corentyne. Harripaul’s body is presently at the Skeldon Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

Yadesh Rooplall, 33, has since been arrested in connection with the fatal incident. His vehicle, which has a damaged front windscreen and headlight, was also seized.

According to information gathered, Harripaul’s body was discovered at around 4 pm on Saturday.

Stabroek News was told that police in the area received an anonymous call that there was a body on the main road. After arriving on the scene, blood was noticed on Harripaul’s neck and torso, while there was a gash to his neck. 

This newspaper was further told that the scene was searched and broken glass from a vehicle’s headlight was discovered a short distance away from the body and along the roadway.
