The eighth annual Payless Variety Store 11-race cycling programe will pedal off on Saturday in the inner circuit of the National Park.

The event, which is organized by National Cycling Coach, Hassan Mohamed, is expected to attract a significant amount of the country’s top riders from BMX level up to veterans as the event rides off from 09.00 hours.

Last year, it was West Stand United’s Briton John, who rode off with the spoils in the 35-lap Schoolboys and Invitational feature race in a time of one hour 17 minutes and 44 seconds. The teenage wheelsman has set the track ablaze and sits as the best rider in the country which could mean he is a favourite heading into Saturday’s event.

John, who also won the 10-lap juveniles race last year, will also want to build momentum as he heads into the Caribbean Road Race Championship in Cuba in little over a week’s time.

But it will be no walk in the park for the youngster as his teammates for the Caribbean Championships are also hunting for glory. They are Evolution’s Paul DeNobrega, who was second last year, Jamaul John, Curtis Dey and Michael Anthony.

In the other categories, last year’s winners were, Junior Niles (veterans under-50), Linden Blackman (veterans Over-50), Jose Rodrigues (BMX 6-9), Tavishte Persaud (BMX 9-12), Sherwin Sampson (12-14 Bbys and girls), and Jamal Cappel (mountain bike).

Representatives of Payless Variety Store are expected to witness the day’s activities and later assist in the presentation of prizes.
