A man who told a court that he was going to exchange the marijuana found on him for a cellphone was remanded to prison on Wednesday.

Carlos Christopher of Soesdyke, appeared in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty and pleaded not guilty to a trafficking of narcotics charge.

The charge stated that on October 21 at Lombard Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession 198 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The miner told the court that he had the marijuana but he was not keeping it to traffic it. He said he met a man and the man told him that he would get a phone in exchange for the illicit substance.

Stabroek News understands that Christopher was approached by police officers after he was seen acting in a suspicious manner. He was searched by the officers and then arrested when the suspected cannabis was found on him.

The father of two minors was remanded to prison and told that his next court appearance would be on November 13.
