A witness on Wednesday identified murder accused Rajen Dindial as the person who used a paddle to repeatedly hit the now deceased Alston Henry multiple times until he was no longer moving.

The witness, Kemis Harris, was testifying at the time at the trial of Dindial at the High Court in George-town.

The charge against Dindial states that on September 3rd, 2017, at Grove Squatting Area, he murdered Henry, called ‘Boy’.

Harris stated that on September 3rd 2017, around 7 pm, he was making his way through the area and saw a large gathering at a wedding house. Harris told the court that later on the same night, around 11.30 pm, he came back to the area, where he saw Henry push a portable toilet over. It was just a few feet away from the wedding house.

Harris told the court that subsequently he saw a number of persons approaching Henry and one of the persons who he stated was a stranger to the area and one of the accused’s friends picked up a glass bottle and dealt Henry a lash in his face. The witness further said that he then saw Henry pick up a case of empty beer bottles and throw it at the man’s face but he missed.

The man went on to say that he witnessed the accused arm himself with a paddle and deal Henry a lash to his neck. Harris added that after the first hit, Dindial continued to lash Henry on his face and chest until he was not moving.

Harris also told the court that he witnessed the accused’s brother walk up to Henry’s motionless body and kick him in the face. The man went on to say that just about a week after Henry died, he went to the police and reported what he had witnessed on the night in question.

Harris was then cross-examined by Dindial’s attorney, Nigel Hughes.
