Powerhouse Georgetown ended their disastrous run in this year’s SBF Petroleum-sponsored Cricket Guyana Inc Jaguars 50-over Franchise League with a compelling 181-run win over East Coast at Lusignan.

The win was set up by the batsmen who carried the city side to 271-9 at the end of their allotted 50 overs. Top order batsmen Joshua Persaud (44) and Raymond Perez (44) both missed out on recording half centuries but laid the platform for the middle order to operate freely.

Skipper Leon Johnson capitalised by caressing five fours and three maximums to complete a knock of 68 while Jeremiah Scott – an exciting up and coming talent – struck two sixes and a four on his way to 58 which carried Georgetown to a respectable total.

Damuka Nygondo nabbed 4-59 to end as the pick of the bowlers for the East Coast side while Chanderpaul Ramraj took 2-60.

East Coast, in response, folded for 90 with spin twins Ashmead Nedd (3-18) and Steven Sankar (3-26) sharing six wickets between them. Skipper Johnson also supported with figures of 2-4 to complete the win.

Meanwhile, over at Tuschen, West Berbice signed off the tournament on a positive note after completing a 55-run win over West Demerara.

The Berbice side batted first and posted 206-9 from their allotted overs with Kevin Sinclair striking two sixes and a four during an innings of 49.

Raymond Reifer’s left-arm seam reaped figures of 2-41 while M. Dhanpaul (3-56) supported.

West Demerara, in response, were skittled out for 151 in the 40th over with Gudakesh Motie (3-29) and Nigel Deodat (3-27) doing the damage.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul was once again among the runs after completing a knock of 56 while Reifer (42) missed out on a similar milestone.
