Pouderoyen, Beavers record victories

Pouderoyen and Beavers recorded identical 3-2 victories over Golden Warriors and Crane respectively when the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Senior League continued yesterday at the Uitvlugt ground.

Pouderoyen got off to the perfect start against Golden Warriors, as Esan Nelson slotted home in the fifth minute, after an initial strike from Stephon Jupiter fell into his path.

However, Golden Warriors equalised in the 18th minute as Daniel Bernard directed a powerful header into the far corner following a left sided cross.

The score would remain unchanged heading into the halftime interval.

Jupiter would then hand Pouderoyen the advantage in the 64th minute, blasting a right footed free-kick under the jumping wall into the right corner from outside the box.

Pouderoyen’s lead would balloon to 3-1 in the 66th minute compliments of a brilliant individual move from Emmanuel Thomas, who evaded several challenges while entering the box, before rounding the goalkeeper and finishing into the back of the net.

Golden Warriors would reduce the deficit two minutes later, as Marlon Duncan tackled the ball away from the defender before slotting past the advancing goalkeeper.  In the Beavers and Crane encounter, Randy MacFarlane of Beavers broke the deadlock in the ninth minute, slotting home from inside the box after a left sided cross was parried into his onrushing path.

The lead proved to be short-lived as Akeem Pinder unleashed a powerful strike from outside the area into the top corner in the 11th minute to level the scoreline.

Crane then took the lead in the form of Donford Williams, who curled a free-kick from outside the left side of the penalty area into the top right corner.

However, a second half double from Anthony Harding ensured Beavers walked away with their first win of the event.

The equalising goal in the 60th minute occurred from a free-kick at the top of the 18-yard area, while the eventual winner five minutes later was fashioned following a shot which sailed into the roof of the net.
