Bus driver gets bail on wounding, assault charges

A minibus driver was released on bail on Friday after he denied wounding a man during a fight on Hadfield Street.

Michael Smith, 31, of 111 Mile Mahdia Potaro River appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he was charged with wounding Alvin Frank on October 22nd at Hadfield Street, Georgetown. Smith pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was represented by an attorney-at-law who told the court that his client and Frank had a fight and that was when the man allegedly sustained the injury. He also said he was skeptical about how both men were in a fight and only the complainant was injured.

Smith was also charged with unlawfully assaulting Dwayne Carol on the same day and at the same location. He also denied this charge.

The police prosecutor, Christopher Morris, did not provide any further details to the court and he did not object to bail being granted either.

Smith was released on $30,000 bail for the wounding charge and $10,000 bail for the unlawful assault charge. He was advised to make his next court appearance on December 11th in the courtroom of Magistrate Rhondell Weaver for trial in the matter.
