A youth is now remanded to prison after a city court heard that he went back to the location, where he allegedly committed a robbery, to seek employment.

Shannon Joseph, 18, of Sophia, was brought to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday and he pleaded not guilty to an armed robbery charge. The charge, which was read to the young man by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, stated that on October 12th at Oronoque and Charlotte streets, Joseph, while being armed with a gun, robbed Kennedy Singh of a cell phone, valued $35,000, and $25,000 in cash.

Police prosecutor Quinn Harris objected to bail being granted on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence. He told the court that on the day in question Joseph approached Singh while on a bike and asked for directions to get to Church Street. After being answered, he pulled out a knife and held it to the man’s neck and relieved him of his article and cash. Singh then made a report at a police station.

Several days later, Singh noticed Joseph at the same location and, this time the young man was seeking employment in the area. Singh immediately summoned the police and Joseph was arrested.

The magistrate remanded Joseph to prison and told him that his next appearance would be on November 18th for statements in the matter.
