Local non-governmental organisation (NGO) Youths on the Rise Guyana will be hosting a blood drive today at Summertime Travel Agency, Lucky Dollar Building at Vreed-en-Hoop.
The NGO will be collaborating with the Guyana Cancer Foundation to host the drive, which will run from 9 am to 4 pm.
Youths on the Rise Guyana, which is a year old, is dedicating its resources towards youth development and humanitarian work.
“The blood bank is always in need of blood and we notice the accident rate is going up, so if someone is in need of blood they should not be waiting on a relative or someone to give blood but it must be readily available at the blood bank,” director Sasha Rawof said
Aside from helping someone in need of saving, giving blood is two-fold as the donor will also be getting a free check-up. Among the tests being done are glucose testing and blood pressure testing. Giving one pint of blood can save up to two lives and for the giver, whenever one donates blood, the body generates new blood cells that makes one feel healthier.
The drive is the second that Youths on the Rise will host.
