Former Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) accountant Peter Ramcharran, who is on trial for alleged falsification of the entity’s account ledger, is expected to give  sworn testimony early next month when his trial continues.

Two other persons are expected to testify on his behalf on the same date.

Ramcharran is currently being tried by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on five charges of falsification of an account, which allege that while being the accountant of the GRDB, he omitted to enter a total in excess of $414 million in the GRDB ledger.

When the matter was called yesterday in Georgetown Magistrate’s Court One, attorney Sase Gunraj, who is representing Ramcharran, asked the Chief Magistrate for a further adjournment while saying that the two witnesses who were expected to testify yesterday were unavailable. He added that his client, who had opted to give sworn testimony when he was told that he would have to lead his defence, will only be doing so after the testimony of the two witnesses.

After hearing what the lawyer had to say, the Chief Magistrate adjourn-ed the matter until Decem-ber 5th and informed the attorney that if the witnesses fail to show up on that date, Ramcharran can either stay silent or testify because no further adjournment will be granted.
