Collis “El Chapo” Britto shot and killed by police in Santa Cruz on Wednesday morning.

(Trinidad Guardian) A man, who was wanted in connection with ten murders including Tuesday’s double murder of Marsha Joseph, 55, and her son, Shawn, 22, was killed in a police-involved shooting yesterday in Santa Cruz.

According to a police report, at about 3 am, police officers acting on intelligence received went to an area known as Spanish Harlem, at La Canoa, where Collis “El Chapo” Britto lived.

Police said while attempting to detain him the officers were shot at forcing them to return fire.

Britto was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said Britto was the main suspect for at least ten murders in the last two years.

Besides Tuesday’s double murder that occurred at about 4 pm at the corner of Saddle Road and Santa Cruz Old Road, Britto, police said he was the main suspect in the murder of state witness Candy Ann Mc Intyre, who was gunned down after attending her son’s primary school graduation in June this year.

He was also a suspect in two other unrelated killings in which seven people altogether were murdered.

However, a close relative has expressed shock over the information released by police officers and claimed that his name is Collis Mc Gloure and not Britto and also, the relative said he was never known as “El Chapo.”

The relative said Mc Gloure was asleep with his child sleeping on his chest when the officers allegedly broke into his home and surrounded his bed flashing bright lights on his face.

The child, who is less than two years old, was allegedly grabbed by the feet and hung upside down while police allegedly shot Mc Gloure while still lying on his bed.

Another close female relative was said to be in the room when the alleged incident occurred.

Relatives strongly believe that there are ulterior motives for police claiming that he was the main suspect in ten murders including Tuesday’s double murder. They believe officers are engaged in a possible “cover-up” in an attempt to protect the real killer or killers.

Relatives also claimed that Mc Gloure shared a close friendship with the Joseph family as they would drop his daughter to school and said he would never harm the family.

Grieving relatives said when the “time is right” they will go public with this matter.
