Hemant Gocool and Khemraj Persaud were yesterday committed to stand trial at the High Court for the murder of Rohan Persaud, the Grove, East Bank Demerara man who was found stabbed to death earlier this year.

The charge against the two men stated that they murdered Persaud, called ‘Ravi,’ on February 13th, at Samatta Point Grove, East Bank Demerara.

At the conclusion of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the charge yesterday, Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty ruled that a prima facie case was made out against the two men and committed them to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.

The body of 52-year-old Persaud, of Tulip Street, Grove, was discovered along an alleyway just a few corners away from his home with his stomach split and his intestines protruding.

Persaud, a handyman, was well known in the area as he did odd jobs for his neighbours.

Me hear that one of the boys he went with send he home cause he been drunk but he didn’t go. This morning when I went out there, I see the body, how all he stomach outside,” the woman said.
