Rio Indoor Street-ball final group round matches on tonight

All roads will lead to the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, this evening, when the final group round of  the inaugural Rio Indoor Street-ball championship commences from 19:20hrs.

The matches will commence with Broad Street battling Ol Skool Ballers at 19:30hrs. This will be followed by West Demerara’s undefeated unit Showstoppers taking aim at Stabroek Ballers at 20:00hrs in the second affair.

In the third showdown from 20:30hrs, newcomer Avocado Ballers will lock horns with Beterverwagting [BV], while the fourth encounter will pit heavyweights Leopold Street against traditional rival Tiger Bay at 21:00hrs. The Future Stars and Albouystown-A matchup at 21:30hrs will then take centre stage with giants Bent Street matching skills with LA Ballers in the final match from 22:00hrs.

According to a release from the tournament coordinators, Three Peat Promotions, “The final night is expected to be an epic and gruelling showcase of talent and skills. Many of the teams are still battling for a place in the elimination round so effectively tonight is the start of the knockout stage. Effectively eight teams will depart the tournament following the conclusion of the night, which adds to the drama of the tournament. The teams have performed admirably and have certainly enthralled and entertained the fans who have supported the event since its inception. Fans can expect another wonderful night of action, as all the matches have significance.”  

The organisers also said they wanted to thank the law enforcement officers.

“We are also thank to the Guyana Police Force [GPF] who have performed splendidly in carrying out their duties to ensure that the tournament has been incident free. We are expecting another banner night heading into what promises to be a monumental knockout round as the teams battle for a historic first prize of $1,000,000.”

The elimination round will officially commence on Saturday with the Round of 16 stage. This will be followed by the quarterfinals on December 7th. The semi-finals and final will take place December 14th. All matches will be played at the same venue. The runner-up, third and fourth place sides will collect $400,000, $200,000 and $100,000 each along with  a trophy.
