Vijai Rahim joined the 700-pound club yesterday.

The 74kg Hardcore Barbell Gym standout dead lifted a mammoth 700 pounds yesterday at the St. Stanislaus College to highlight this year’s Senior National Powerlifting Championships which saw numerous records tumbling.

Rahim, 27, entered rarified air as only a handful of local powerlifters have been able to lift that amount of weight off the platform.

Weighing in yesterday at 159 pounds, he is the lightest gladiator to complete the herculean task, lifting more than four times his bodyweight.

Romario Gonsalves, Tineisha Toney, Dominic Tyrell, Martin Webster and Jacquline Toney were also among the record breakers who competed at the flagship event which attracted 32 lifters.

The official results will be published in a subsequent article.
