Romario Gonsalves and Tineisha Toney were adjudged the best overall male and female lifters when the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation staged its flagship National Senior Championships on Sunday at St Stanislaus College Auditorium.

The 21 year-old Gonsalves (727.36) and Toney (592.24) recorded the most IPF points among the 32 male and female gladiators that chalked up and competed on the highest local platform for the discipline.

The pair was among several lifters that broke numerous national records, 37 to be exact.

Although Gonsalves, who lifted raw was adjudged the best lifter overall, the spotlight on Sunday belonged to Vijai Rahim who placed second overall with 703.94 IPF points. Rahim, weighing 159 pounds, joined elite local company by dead lifting a mammoth 700 pounds. The 27 year-old from the Hardcore Barbell Gym, entered rarified air as only a handful of local powerlifters have been able to lift that amount of weight off the platform. He is the lightest gladiator to complete the herculean task, lifting more than four times his bodyweight.

Note: More IPF points go to a lifter competing Raw (Unequipped) than Equipped. Rahim competed equipped which gave Gonsalves the edge on the score sheet.
