Assistant Director of Sport, Melissa Dow-Richardson has assured the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation of government’s and the ministry’s continued support and partnership towards the development of the sport in 2020 and beyond.

Dow-Richardson, who was speaking on behalf of the unavoidably absent, Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton, made the statements during a courtesy call by president of the federation, Keavon Bess at the Main Street ministry, yesterday.

She noted that “once the books of the federation are in order,” government is committed to investing in not just bodybuilding but in all sports disciplines.

Bess presented a document outlining three key areas where finances will be spent. They include funding for athletes representing the Golden Arrowhead internationally, finances to offset expenses to attend Colombia next year to bid to host the CAC Championships in 2022 and finances to help host the event once successful.

“It is a great initiative for Guyana to bid and I have confidence that these endeavors will be supported,” said Dow-Richardson

Guyana hosted a successful CAC event in 2004 and Bess in confident that his bidding team which will include Director General of Tourism, will get the green light for 2022.

During the courtesy call, Dow-Richardson also congratulated the federation and five-time Mr. Guyana and gold medalist at this year’s CAC Championships, Kerwin Clarke.
