Biker dies in Ituni trail collision

An Ituni motorcyclist, who was riding without a head lamp on, died after crashing into a car on the Ituni trail on Saturday night.

The dead man has been identified as Godfrey Willis of Goat Farm, Ituni, Region 10. Police, in a statement, said that Willis, while traversing on the trail, collided head on with the car which carried licence plate number PPP 651. The accident occurred at around 7pm on Saturday.

Investigations have revealed that the car was driving east on the northern side of the trail while the motorcycle was proceeding in the opposite direction, with the head lamp off and collided with the front left side of the car. From the impact, police said, Willis fell onto the road and suffered injuries about his body.

He was picked up and rushed to the Ituni Health Centre where he was seen and examined by a Medex who pronounced him dead on arrival.

The driver of the car, a 47-year old mechanic of Kwakwani Park, Berbice River, was arrested. He is currently assisting with investigations.
