Skeletal remains found in Marudi Mountain area

The police in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) are probing the discovery of skeletal remains, suspected to be those of a man, which were found on Sunday in the Marudi Mountain area.

The discovery was reportedly made by a group of miners on Sunday afternoon.

Regional Commander Superintendent Keithon King yesterday told Stabroek News that a team of ranks has since been dispatched to the area.

However, due to the distance, King said the ranks are expected to take some time to get to and return from the scene.  They departed for Lethem yesterday morning and are expected to be back by this evening.

Once the remains are retrieved, King said, they will be processed by a pathologist.
