Guyana completed a 3-0 sweep of their Goodwill International Basketball Series against Grenada, defeating the visitors Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
The Guyanese prevailed 97-73 to cap off a fine performance. Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the series Ray Victor top scored with 17 points. He was closely followed by the duo of Nikkolai Smith and Travis Belgrave who scored 16 and 15 points each. Adding 10 points was Terron Welch.
Jonathan Williams led the way for the losers with 18 points while G. St. John scored 16 points. Chipping in with eight points was James Andrews.
The locals seized the advantage early in the contest as the first quarter concluded 21-17. Guyana would increase their lead in the second period, scoring 35 points while restricting Grenada to 13 points to enter the halftime interval ahead at 56-30.
The lead was marginally improved upon in the third quarter as the Guyanese outscored the Grenadians 26-25 to enter the final period at 82-55. With the contest effectively sealed, Guyana would surrender the final quarter by an 18-15 score.
