Annai teen dies in road mishap

A 16-year old student of Bina Hill Secondary School in Annai, North Rupununi, died on Wednesday after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and crashed into bushes along a road in the community.

The dead teen has been identified as Danillo Allicock, of Surama, North Rupununi, in Region Nine.

Police Commander of the Region Keithon King last night told Stabroek News the teen was pronounced dead on arrival at the Lethem Public Hospital.

According to the police investigations, it was revealed that Allicock and another individual, who was the pillion rider, were riding along the road and were in the process of navigating a turn when the accident occurred.

King explained that a vehicle was allegedly approaching the turn from the opposite direction and Allicock attempted to swerve to avoid a collision. In the process of doing so, he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a clump of bushes.

Allicock reportedly fell to the ground and was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the hospital.

The commander disclosed that after the accident occurred, the pillion rider picked up the motorcycle and fled the scene.

Public-spirited persons who witnessed the accident summoned the ambulance from the Annai Health Clinic and transported Allicock to the hospital.

King noted that a search is on for the pillion rider as investigators would like to question him regarding the events that led to the accident. Checks were made at the school for the pillion rider but King said that the young man did not attend school yesterday.
