Twenty-five-year-old Region Nine resident, Russell Allicock will have to carry on daily duties in the future without an arm after he was attacked by caimans in the Takutu Pond while fishing with some friends.

The incident occurred just after lunch on Sunday, some five miles from the Village of Kwatamang.

According to reports, at the time of the incident, Allicock and his friends were dragging their net across the pond. At some point, he and his friends reportedly got tired and stopped for a break.

The said break was cut short when Allicock felt the jaws of a caiman and quickly called out for help. He later called for a knife which was used to stab the caiman and caiman at the said time let go of him but was not finished.  The caiman in another attack,  grabbed on to the arm of Allicock and took a piece of it. The caiman then got away.

His friends later rushed to his rescue and took Allicock to the nearby Annai Cottage Hospital. Due to the seriousness of his injury he was later transferred to the Lethem Regional Hospital, where he remains a patient.

Family members related that Allicock lost a lot of blood in process but they remain grateful that he is alive.  (Joseph Allen)
