Driver with legs out of bus charged

The driver and conductor of a Route 44 minibus who were caught on camera dancing and gyrating as they proceeded along the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) roadway more than one month ago were arrested and yesterday charged with several traffic offences.

The men: Trevin Bobb-Semple, 28, of 101 South Better Hope, ECD and Timehri Dock Road, East Bank Demerara and Jermaine Waldron, 27, of Haslington, ECD appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

Bobb-Semple, who was the driver of the minibus BYY 1309 faced five charges: driving a tinted motor vehicle, being an untidy driver, failing to have control of the motor vehicle, breach of conduct of road service licence and dangerous driving.

Conductor Waldron was charged with failing to ensure passengers’ safety and being an untidy conductor. 

Bobb-Semple pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was placed on a total of $100,000 bail.

Waldron, on the other hand pleaded guilty and was fined a sum of $40,000.

Bobb-Semple driver’s licence was also suspended until the determination of the cases which was postponed to March 19, 2020.

A video capturing the incident which occurred on November 15 on the Strathspey Embankment, ECD was widely circulated on social media site, Facebook.

It was later brought to the police’s attention and the men were subsequently arrested.

In the video seen by this newspaper, Waldron was seen holding onto the bus dancing with the door open as the passengers cheered him on.

He later locked his door and Bobb-Semple was then also seen dancing but with his feet out of the vehicle and his door open as he continued to drive the minibus. He too was being cheered on by the passengers. After he closed the door, the video ended.
