Defending champion Shiva Boys of Trinidad and Tobago commenced their title defence in the perfect manner, brushing aside highly touted Region #9 unit Annai Secondary 3-0 yesterday in the 2nd Annual KFC Goodwill Series at the National Training Center, Providence.
Adica Ash was the difference between the teams as he recorded a timely hat-trick to seal the vital result. Ash found the back of the net with a clinical strike in the 23rd minute, breaking the resistance of the Annai rearguard. This proved to be the only conversion of the first half.
However, Ash made his presence felt twice in the second period to put the game beyond the reach of the local outfit. The wily Ash sealed his double with a powerful shot in the 66th minute, before returning in the 89th minute to apply the final nail in the coffin, in the process sealing his hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Region #7 unit Desrey Fox Secondary, formerly known as Waramadong, defeated recently crowned GuyOil champion Lodge Secondary 3-1. Ovid Andrews recorded a double in the 32nd and 67th minute, while Whitaker Paul added a goal in the 35th minute. For the loser, Dorwin George scored a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.
The event which concludes on December 22nd will resume tomorrow with the final round of group stage matches. All matches will now be staged at the GFF National Training Center, Providence. Below features the list of matches for the final group round.
