The police yesterday vowed to bring the killer of a 28-year-old athletics coach and rural constable to justice.

Seon Anthony `Cenestro’ Burry’s lifeless body was discovered early yesterday morning with multiple stab wounds at D’Urban Park.

Burry was attached to the Police Sports Club and lived at Lot 194 Section A, Field 7, South Sophia.

Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan yesterday said that the incident occurred sometime between 3.30am and 5.45am.

He said Burry’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds including to his neck and throat.

It remains unclear whether any of Burry’s belongings were stolen or what might have transpired leading up to his demise.

The police said that information revealed that Burry left home around 3.30am to train athletes. Stabroek News understands that he would do this almost every morning.

The dead man’s mother, Jennifer Benn is calling for justice. “I want justice. I am going to be my own detective out here,” Benn told Stabroek News.

Benn explained that as a young individual, Burry dominated the force’s sports department and was nominated to receive an award yesterday.

She said in the past he related to her about him being envied. As such, Benn believes that her son’s killer was close to him and wanted him dead.

“He use to tell me of things going on. The enviousness…Then today (yesterday) was he award ceremony. He was to be awarded today and all of that. Many of them were against it because he was the youngest in the set,” the grieving woman related.

Benn related that she last saw Burry on Monday afternoon. She said up to Monday evening when she left home for work, he had not returned.

She said she was at home yesterday morning when a man visited and informed her that Burry had been found lying near to D’Urban Park.

Benn noted that at that time she didn’t know he was dead but rather suspected that he might have gotten dehydrated while training and fallen.

She said she rushed to the scene where her worst fear was confirmed.

Burry enlisted in the force as a rural constable on July 17, 2015.

He was described as an individual who was “very much” committed to his field of work.

The Guyana Police Force in a press statement yesterday vowed to bring Burry’s killer/s to justice. “The Guyana Police Force vows to bring the perpetrator(s) of his brutal slaying to justice,” the statement said.

The force extended condolences to his family and friends.

No arrest has been made as yet.
