There is a programme on the cards for strengthening of child care agency

Dear Editor,

Please permit me to respond to a letter in your newspaper dated December 30, 2019: `Child Care and Protection Agency needs institutional strengthening.’

I must make this clear that Ms. Khan never had a discussion with me personally on the case she is representing and for her to make statements of things that I have said or did not say amounts to hearsay.

To set the record straight, the Ministry of Social Protection, New Children & Family Care Centre is a facility to house families, be it male-single-parent, female-single-parent households or otherwise.  However, a family must satisfy the criteria for admission and must be willing to abide with the strict regulations and to work with the Officers and Social workers through the transition process.

Childcare & Protection Agency (CPA) is still a relatively new agency, and in response to CPA needing “institutional strengthening” there is full agreement.   The administration of the Ministry of Social Protection is cognisant of this and there is such a programme on the cards for 2020 and beyond.

Yours faithfully,

Ann Greene

Head of Childcare & Protection
