Former national youth batsman Omesh Danram yesterday swatted an unbeaten half-century to power the University of Guyana (UG) to a comfortable seven-wicket win over the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) in the penultimate round of the New Building Society (NBS) Second Division forty overs tournament.

UG, chasing 220 for victory, reached 221 for 3 inside 26 overs with the right-handed Danram slamming eight fours and four maximums in an unbeaten knock of 89 to see his side home.

He also shared in a 155 run-stand with Linden Austin, who made 57 inclusive of five fours and a maximum. The pair came together with the score on 55-2 after the loss of Melroy Stephenson (4) and Godfrey Thakurdin (33) and took the game away from MSC.

Skipper Nickhose Barker (1-41), Marcus Watkins (1-40) and Delon Dalrymple (1-31) were the wicket-takers for MSC, who had earlier won the toss and elected to bat and reached 219 for nine before their overs expired.

Opener Stephon Browne top scored with 37 while Barker (30) and Joseph Cupidore (30) both chipped in.

UG’s bowling effort was spearheaded by skipper Dennis Heywood whose off-spin yielded 2-32 while Yekin Favorite (2-53) and Devon Paul (2-45) contributed to the win.
