The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) and the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) renewed their partnership yesterday in the boardroom of DSL ‘Cash n Carry’.
During a media briefing, Brand Manager Larry Wills recommitted to supporting the future of boxing in Guyana under their Pepsi brand.
“We will continue to throw our support behind the GBA in years to come and we look forward to the partnership. DDL is all about encouraging development among the youth of this country thus our support at the grassroots level”.
Pepsi has been sponsoring tournaments for the last seven years and will continue their support of the fistic sport. Today at 13:00hrs, the GBA will stage their second Pepsi/Mike Parris U-16 Tournament for 2019 today at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Gym.
The partnership with Pepsi has been GBA’s longest sponsorship deal with any entity and President of the GBA Steve Ninvalle pointed out that the association has always tried to ensure that “the tournaments are something the sponsors could be proud of.”
Also present at the press conference was GBA’s Technical Director, Terrence Poole, who thanked DDL for staying the course and assisting the GBA throughout the years. He also underscored that a lot of emphasis is being placed on Guyana’s nursery of boxers as the GBA is always focused on growth.
The Pepsi/Mike Parris U-16 Tournament has birthed the likes of Keevin ‘Lightning’ Allicock and Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis.
